Syrah in all its forms: A thousand-wine grape variety …
One grape variety, a thousand wines.
At the Preignes le Vieux estate we have our favorite grape varieties and Syrah is one of them!
No one can agree on where the Syrah comes from, this black grape that can be found today in the Rhône Valley, Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon and southwestern France. Several legends speak of its possible origin in Sicily, Persia or Syria. Genetic tests finally revealed that it would be a grape variety born from the meeting of a variety from the Côtes du Rhône and another from Switzerland.
Black, peppery, structured: Syrah is an assertive grape variety that produces colorful, aromatic, and delicate yet structured wines. It exudes gracefully, in the reds, fruity scents (red and black fruits: raspberry, redcurrant, blueberry, blackberry) and floral (violet, mignonette), and even spicy (truffle, pepper, liquorice, menthol). It also gives birth to pretty fruity rosés.
As it ages, its characteristic violet nose evolves towards more complex notes blending musk, truffle, leather, pepper or liquorice …
Find all of the Domaine’s wines made from this beautiful grape variety… For tasting whenever you want at Domaine Preignes le Vieux.
